Two plants can both call their feed food waste and still need different equipment. One may receive chopped vegetables with plenty of free liquid. Another may handle mixed kitchen waste containing cooked food, fibrous leftovers and occasional packaging fragments. The material name is only a starting point; what matters is what actually reaches the hopper.
Selection starts with the real feed, not only its name.
Capacity, screen choice and output target must be considered together.
Representative material testing is needed before confirming a model.

Describe whether the feed is a pumpable slurry, a loose fibrous mass or a mixture of large and small pieces. Does it release free water easily, or does it hold moisture in a soft pulp? Does the composition change between deliveries? Those details affect feeding, screen drainage and the way a cake forms. HUATAO's industrial screw press dewatering machine page introduces the equipment, but the final arrangement must be matched to the feed.
Removing free liquid before composting is not the same job as producing a firmer solid for storage, transport or further processing. Decide where the separated liquid will go and what the solids will be used for. Then agree on practical acceptance criteria: hourly throughput, cake handling, liquid quality and the degree of dewatering required.
Do not copy an outlet-moisture target from another material without testing. A screw press removes liquid that can move through the material and screen under mechanical pressure. Water held within cells, fine pores or absorbent fibres may remain. For kitchen and mixed organic waste, HUATAO's guide to choosing a screw press for kitchen and organic waste is a useful application reference.
Large pieces may bridge at the inlet or create uneven feeding. Excessive fines can blind the screen or pass through openings that are too large. Long fibres may bridge openings or form a mat. Pre-treatment should address a real problem: cutting oversized pieces can help, but grinding everything finer may create more fines and make drainage harder.
Stones, metal, wire and rigid packaging should be removed before the press. A screw press should not be expected to act as a primary rubbish separator. If the feed comes from several collection points, ask how contamination is controlled and whether its level changes from batch to batch.
The screen opening and profile affect both liquid passage and solids retention. Openings that are too small for a sticky or fine feed may blind quickly; openings that are too large may allow more solids to escape with the liquid. The screw arrangement and discharge restriction also influence how material moves and forms a cake.
A fibrous spent-grain feed may need a different balance from soft vegetable pulp. HUATAO's pages on the screw press screen cylinder and screw press for spent grain illustrate why screen and machine should be considered as one working system. Construction material should also be reviewed against the process liquid and cleaning chemicals.
A useful test uses material collected during normal production, not a hand-picked sample that happens to drain well. Record moisture or solids concentration, particle size and any preparation carried out. During the trial, look at stable feeding, throughput, filtrate flow, cake condition, drive load and whether the screen stays clear enough for continuous operation.
If several streams will share one machine, test the most difficult or variable feeds as well as the easiest one. Agree on whether they will be processed in campaigns, whether cleaning is needed between materials and how operators will record settings. For fruit and vegetable residues, the HUATAO article on fruit and vegetable waste dewatering provides another material-specific reference.
Possibly, if the machine configuration suits the feeds. Their fibre structure, particle size and drainage behaviour differ, so test each regular material and do not assume one set of operating settings will suit all of them.
No. Provide wet feed rate and moisture or solids concentration. Dry-solids loading helps explain the actual duty.
No. Cutting oversized material may help feeding, but excessive grinding can create fines that blind the screen or escape with the liquid.
No. The achievable result depends on material structure, free-water content, compressibility and operating conditions.
Provide a representative sample, hourly feed rate, moisture or solids data, particle size, contaminants, operating hours and the intended use of the separated solids and liquid.
